Tips On Writing A Book

Eric Said:

Can someone give me some tips on writing a book?

We Answered:

Answer some basic questions:

What genre?
What is it about (murder mystery, faerie kingdom, mythology)?
What audience?
Who are the characters?
Is there a message you want to convey?
Where and when is it set (ancient Egypt, modern day France, Future in Space)?

Just think about what you want to do in the story, plan it, and don't even think about getting it published until you know what it is going to be about.

Good Luck!

Tips on writing a book series?

JK Rowling is one individual.
She obviously liked to plan ahead so she could drop hints etc.

But YOU are also an indiidual, if you want to leave it then do so.
I am writing a book and i DO know whats going to happen, but i dont know everything.

If you are going to write a seires it miht elp to know the basic things, important characters later on etc so you can express them right - but it doesnt mean you have to write the last book first.

Any Tips for Writing a Book?

We Answered:

Have a plan, make all the characters before you start, don't start with a dream, know your plot, make it flow :)
Mine is The Joker Trials about a girl understanding who friends really are and what love is made of.

What is yours about?

Does anyone have any good tips for writing a book?

Well, if you're not completely satisfied with what you've written, you need to change it. Trust me, if you continue with something less than your best, you will find yourself dreading to write your story.
Um, there's not much I can think of. Well, map out all the characters you know you'll need off the top of your head. I find it helpful to get a pad of paper and make a detailed "autobiography" as I call it, of the person. Record their appearance, their personality, their family, their friends, and their hobbies, even what type of music they listen to! This will help you later when you need to decide how a certain character will react to a certain situation. Make sure you have one of these for each character. It may take a little bit of time, but it'll definitely be worth it.
Also, try keeping an online thesaurus open at all times. Make sure each of your words fit just right and in every way possible. It'll also help to expand your word usage eventually without using the thesaurus.
If you have trouble coming up with names, grab a phone book and mix up some of the names. Whatever sounds good and fits each character nicely.
Make sure you're in the right mood before you write. I've discovered that if I'm in the wrong mood, but write anyway, it sounds like garbage when I read it later, or it just doesn't fit. Delete anything that doesn't sound right immediately so that you don't have to go back and try to fix a million different parts because of one mistake.
These are just problems I've had in the past. I hope this helps! =]
