Zachary Said:

anyone willing to proof read my story for a writing contest?

We Answered:

Write the story first, and then let's look at proofing. Greek gods named Vanessa Rose and Allison Jeannete? You're kidding aren't you?

Tonya Said:

tell me some good websites where i can participate in story writing contest for free?

We Answered:

Mibba.com

Make an account and then go into the forums and look for a contest you would be interested in joining. There are lots of cool features, like creating layouts and adding banners to your stories. Editing your profile and meeting people is pretty cool, too. And people can comment and subscribe to the stories you write. There's also a chat and place to post journals. :)

But they're for fun, not serious ones.

Entering a story writing contest?

If you're writing for a contest, then aren't you supposed to be worried about the judges as opposed to the public? Or is the public your judge?

And everyone has different tastes. Trying to write a book that pleases is everyone is futile. I just think it defeats the purpose of writing if you write what others tell you to. Unless you're a ghost writer, in which case that would be your job.

But as they say, "write what you know." Are you subjected to the drama of teenagers daily? Write about that. Are you an all-knowing fan of myths, fairy tales, dragons, fairies, and the like? Write a fantasy. If you can't write what you know, write what you want. There's nothing worse than being forced to write about something that doesn't catch your interest. You're in high school now, aren't you? You have an English class, right? You should know that better than anyone.
