Responding To Writing Prompts
Raul Said:
Can someone write 2 short paragraphs responding to this prompt? We Answered:
you will get better responses in the "Homework Help" sectionRicardo Said:
How do i write an easy but compelling personal statement? We Answered:
You want someone to write your personal statement for you?! Wow, I thought I'd seen it all...I'm applying to UC for Fall 08 as well...and I hope you don't get accepted to the school I want to go to.
Jack Said:
what does this mean?We Answered:
How does Orwell illustrate language's power to manipulate and/or elevate in Animal Farm? The key verb is illustrate; Orwell is trying to illustrate the power of language and its role in manipulation or elevation (perhaps elevation through social ranks? respect?).
The question how is asking you to find examples where Orwell used, perhaps, words that would directly affect the speaker's (not necessarily) social status or how the speaker used specific words to manipulate his or her audience.
This is my take (it's been five years since I read Animal Farm), and I hope it makes sense to you. Good luck!

Starting sentence and thesis for this writing prompt? We Answered:
Well, your teacher is asking you to consider how Twain and Hawthorne each treat the theme of vengeance in their novels. You'll probably find from your reading that they present it quite differently because they are two very different writers who wrote at different points in time.I would begin broadly, that is with a general sentence introducing the topic of vengeance, or revenge, not necessarily connected to the two titles. Then in the next sentence I might introduce one of the two titles with a still-general statement about how vengeance is addressed in that book. I'd discuss the other title right after that. The last sentence could be your thesis statement, which should end your introductory paragraph: what is the overall, arguable statement you want to spend your paper proving? (Sorry -- you gotta figure this out yourself!)
Those questions your teacher asks in the 2nd paragraph of the prompt can be answered in your body paragraphs. You might find yourself flipping back and forth between the two titles, or you might discuss one title in depth first, answering all those questions, then transitioning to an in-depth discussion of the other title. Good luck.

Which is more valuable: The energy of youth, or the wisdom of age?We Answered:
Energy is a great thing but poorly directed it soon dissipates.Age teaches one to use their resources carefully. The energy that is available is more carefully directed.
Having seen both stages, I can tell you that age does not magically bestow wisdom nor does youth have a patent on energy. When I was young I was pretty lazy. When I got older I became more motivated and the energy seemed to come from the motivation to accomplish something.
Wisdom is more elusive that energy ever was at any age. Maturity and wisdom are two very different things. I should say that I am perhaps the most impressed by the wisdom I see displayed by preschoolers. Somehow they just have it. After they get into school it seems to disappear.
By the way I'm 61 so you can see how someone my age might respond.
