High School Writing Prompts

Jenny Said:

Could you help me with my writing?

We Answered:

Well I'm not sure why you want to write a manly story if your inclination is to write from a girl's point of view? My inclination is to tell you to stick to whatever feels natural to you, but if you want to give it a shot to challenge yourself then that makes sense. Perhaps you can show whatever you write to a guy friend and see if you got the feel of a male character? I have trouble writing them too.

I like the example you have with the guy skipping school. Moving to a new school is a little cliche. The only situation that springs to mind right now, maybe a shy boy who is picked on a lot and then he befriends the new boy in school. They have something weird in common like they both enjoy sci-fi conventions. Then they make a plan to get back at the bullies in school but it goes awry.

Not sure what you're looking for, but that's what came to mind. Good luck!

How long should my essay be?

We Answered:

It should be the length you need to cover everything you need to say. At least 3 though.

Intro should include the topic your going talk about including the sub topics and a thesis statement (once statement that says exactly what the essay is over).

each paragraph in the body will be the the different subtopics under your topic. So say your talking about how to bake a cake and you want to include all the ingredients you need, how to mix them, the and process of baking the cake. Those are your 3 body prepares because they are each about something different, but they all tie into baking the cake.

Your conclusion should be a brief recap of what you talked about in your whole paper.

So with your topic, I would say you could easily get 5 paragraphs out of that, an into, 3 body and a conclusion.

Persuasive essay for high school?

We Answered:

You could argue the creative aspect of it. Students absolutely should have the opportunity to take those courses. Efforts to save money should be spent elsewhere. Students can come out of their creative shells through art, music, and cars. Taking away something that students have a love for will upset them, they will not be motivated, etc.

James Said:

what are some really good prompts for a story!!!???

We Answered:

Jr high? Search the web for "writing prompts + 8th grade"
you should receive some educational sites that will give you writing prompts for your grade level. When writing, make sure that you pay close attention to the construction of the essay: 1. Topic sentence - tell reader what you are writing about 2. Topic paragraph - tells reader each point you will be talking about. 3. 3 body paragraphs each talking about one of the points mentioned in TP. and 4. The conclusion - which retells or sums up what you just explained to the reader.

But seriously, all you have to do is search for writing prompts. Or, you can simply write about something that intrests you personally, or that you read in the paper and write a reply to.

Good job for reaching out to better your writing skills. I wish more kids would do the same.
