Interesting. You seem like a reasonably intelligent person, so I'll get right to the point without all the don't-worry-be-happy advice lots of people think is helpful.You probably realize you reinforce your own negativity. Maybe you also realize that you write of yourself as a victim. You also seem strongly affected by learned helplessness. And yes, I spot some narcissism there, too, in your post.
Why so worried about not being able to retain an elated mood? Good moods and bad moods are equally fickle and temporary. I think the anxiety you have for not being able to be any kinds of happy keeps you from being happy. In my brain, my "happiness map" and my "anxious map" do not touch at all; I can't feel one while feeling the other.
Have you ever tried to help yourself? Or are you just resigned to your "fate"? Have you ever tried psychotherapy, medications, group therapy, journals, education about mental and developmental disorders, exercise, adjusting diet, or beginning a new hobby? Not everything is for everyone, but as long as someone is openminded enough, there is something that'll work for that person. I went through many therapists, believing them to be inferior or somehow lacking in the proper understanding of me. I was narrow-minded and a bit grandiose. I've found a therapist who won't take my crap, and is just as realistic (perhaps a bit cynical) as I am. If you want to be better, you have to find ways to be better.
A lot of people prefer to be "sick" or depressed, or whatever because of secondary gains. What do you gain by being sick? Some people like the sympathy, others the disability checks, and so on. Some people don't want the responsibility of taking care of themselves. What are the benefits of being the way you are and feeling the way you do? What are the benefits of being healthier of mind?
So the world has suckiness in it, the majority of people are shallow/stupid/etc, and people like Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh exist. Doesn't mean you can't find health for yourself. You don't have to wallow in negativity just because that's what you've been doing this whole time. The brain is plastic and is remarkable in its ability to change itself. If you are sick of how you feel, then change your brain. It's only in your power to do so. No one on Yahoo answers is going to make you all better (yes, I know, you didn't expect that, but why post anything in the first place if not looking for some kind of helpful feedback? For humor's sake?).
Not trying to be condescending or helpful. Just real. Just relaying my experience and education along to anyone willing to hear it.
