Diary Writing Prompts

Steven Said:

What should i write about in my diary?

We Answered:

Don't write mundane things, diaries are supposed to be like a life journal....
Special things or meetings - new people in your life, events,
times your feeling happy/sad.
Make it an interesting reminder of things that have gone on in your
life for memories when you get older.

Have a separate diary for appointments, birthdays etc...

Emily Said:

diary entry contest!!!!!!!?

We Answered:

Dear Diary,
Me again. So that kid Lingini is still at work. I was actually really surprised to find him in the kitchen when i got there this morning. I mean, the way Boss treated him yesterday would be enough for me to quit, but nope, he's still here, and he's still his awkward self. Like, I said hello to him, and he looked like he would shake my hand or something (?) but then at the last second he spun around on the balls of his feet and kept working. And I got this weird thought: It's like he's a puppet, being controlled by someone???? But then I realized how stupid that was and I made myself busy cutting up veggies. He's kind of cute too... oh, what am I saying! Better go before I go gaga thinking about him!

Bernice Said:

What would be the best writing style for this book?

We Answered:

I think you should write it both, maybe at the beginning of each chapter start with a diary entry and then first person.

There are a lot of feelings in your book and the best way to write them is first person, but a diary entry could help a lot with a personality, or the deepest thoughts.

In the diary entries you could write some poems, i read a book and the character would write song lyrics to assosicate with feelings.

Diary of a worm...writing activity?

We Answered:

How about, "If I were a worm, I would eat ____." I can imagine some kindergartners coming up with wacky stuff for this!

Ruben Said:

Diary- I always stop after a few entries! How can I keep it up?

We Answered:

I have the same problem sometimes, but what I have found helps the most is just to keep my journal by my bedside. Every night before I go to sleep, I grab it and just write about my day. It's generally nothing profound, but it really helps me to get my thoughts down and work through whatever I'm going through. Don't worry if your days are boring--most people's are--and it's not like you are writing your diary for anyone else to read. It is not a best selling novel-don't think, just write. It's also a good way to just unwind and relax before going to bed. It takes some perseverance at first to get in the habit of always writing in your diary, but it's well worth it once you get in the habit. (It's also really fun to go back a couple of years later and see what "tragedies" were going on in your life)
Good luck!
