It's different for everyone. Creative writing classes help and you should attend one but writing a story is not that simple. My first story started off with a name 'Anne Galtry' and it went from there. Write about anything from walking your dog to shopping at Sainsbury's and then add things as you go along. Once you get into the habit of writing you can plan a story in your mind then sit down and write it. Whatever you do have fun because as a writer you can play God and make your characters do anything you want. Good luck.
