How long should one write when doing writing prompts? We Answered:
There's no reason at all to stop-if you can write a book based off of a writing prompt, go for it! I usually write short stories from prompts, but I am jealous of anyone who can write a book from it :)Barbara Said:
Journal writing or writing prompts? We Answered:
I find that writing prompts aren't all that helpful. They provide quick stimulation but tend to provide only burst creativity. It really depends on you're writing style. Personally, I find that establishing the characters, the scenario, and the setting is more productive then plotting and finding quick inspiration for scenes. To this extent I maintain a journal. During the day I observe at least 3 people and record their interaction with others. I make note of the when/where/how and then try to imagine the why from at least 3 different perspectives. With those character perspectives I'll quickly and discreetly probe for a response from my guess. These insights into individual personality help me build stronger characters and allow them to guide the story without all the plodding painful outlining.Allison Said:
Website for writing prompts?We Answered:
StoryMash.com is a great site for publishing stories. It's collaborative fiction where anyone can publish new chapters that continue stories written by others. Really a fun way to read and help create the most amazing stories, and get feedback from other talented writers.
