Creative Writing Essay

Leslie Said:

which is harder to write Creative essay or Personal essay?

We Answered:

A creative essay does not include a persuasive essay. When the topic or form of the paper is too defined, it ceases being creative. I don't know if there is any essay that isn't personal on some level. Most everyone incorporates their own opinions and views into the work of writing, giving it a personal element. In my mind, a creative essay, while it may be loosely defined by a teacher or professor, it usually comes completely from the imagination of the student. In my experience, a creative essay ceases to be creative when you pull other sources into it, as this is building on the research and arguments of other scholars. This eliminates persuasive essays from the realm of creative essays. Narrative essays and descriptive essays are ones I'd include in the Creative essay genre; most of the time they relate a personal experience.

I believe a creative essay is easier because it takes less grunt work. All you have to do to prepare is organize your thoughts and ideas, create an outline, and then write away. Persuasive essays can require up to several hours worth of collecting and analyzing relevant sources to include in your paper to support your argument, and then organizgin ideas, the outline, and the drafting process.

I have a writing essay and need a creative start that could help me boost up to a 6....?

You need to start with your conclusion. The easy conclusion to reach is that the good outweighs the bad (conventional wisdom) or that the bad outweighs the good (which would have been original thinking around 1950, but is hardly original today). If you want originality (which will get you points), you need to find an "angle." Might I suggest something along these lines: the problem with learning to be part of any team is the loss of individuality, but ironically, this same loss of individuality makes you more a better individual.

The key is in introducing "irony" into your conclusion. Write your first paragraph in about five sentences; state your conclusion, and without using the word "irony," make sure the reader will understand in the first paragraph that you will be revealing an irony to him or her.

Follow these guidelines, and I guarantee a great grade.
