Writing Jobs Seattle

Deanna Said:

Where do I move to? Seattle or Kingsport?

We Answered:

I live in a town just a ferry ride away from Seattle and I really love living in WA. I have lived here for nearly 7 years and I can't get enough of it. They are tons of things to do in The Pacific Northwest; hiking, boating, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, clamming, fishing, I mean anything that has to do with water or mountains it pretty much a given, so if being outdoors is important to you The PNW is the place to go. Seattle has great shopping, theaters, restaurants and so on, and there isn't just Seattle, we're close to Canada so there is so many opportunities to just go and travel. It really is a lot of fun, people say that it rains a lot but no more than the usually place, I mean it only seems more rainy because we have a lot of CLOUDY days and the misty and fog can be pretty thick sometimes but actual huge heavy rainfall is pretty far and few between. And did I mention we have GLORIOUS summers? I mean really they are ABSOLUTELY beautiful.

Stacey Said:

Is Seattle a city worth moving to?

We Answered:

It sounds as though Seattle may be a good fit for you. First of all, you've lived in the Midwest, which means you'll appreciate the mild climate here. Most people who move here from the South or from California complain about the rain in the winter.

Also, if you like outdoors activities and running, Seattle is a great place to be. There are plenty of trails, parks, and outdoor activities in Seattle and the surrounding areas.

As for the small-town vibe, Seattle has that moreso than any other metropolitan area I've been to. The neighborhoods are unique and make you feel as though you are in a smaller community, even though larger city amenities are nearby. On the bad side though, we also struggle with many of the same issues that LA does...traffic, high housing prices, and homelessness.

As for other places you might consider...Denver or Boulder, Colorado are also great for outdoorsy types and they tend to get more sunshine than we do here in Seattle.

If you are interested, there's this great website that I found a few years ago. It matches your preferences, values, and ideals with cities across the US.

Hope that helps! Good luck with whatever you choose.

Craig Said:

How is the job market in seattle? I am looking to move there and start writing more music.?

We Answered:

The market is decent, better than some places.

Seattle Metro has been hiring a lot for different positions, so you might want to check them out.

Apart from them, there are a fair number of jobs posted on craigslist... a lot of them are for the 9-12$/hr range, which isn't a whole lot, considering that minimum is around 8 I think.

If you are on any of the bus routes it's going to be a lot easier on you in terms of getting to and from work. I-5 is really congested in the morning, as are both floating bridges - always leave as early as possible!

The music scene isn't too bad, but it has its ups and downs. I'm not sure what exactly you meant by writing music, but there are a few different ways to get your music out around here, so that's cool...

I just spent $4.55/gal I think for mid-grade gas.
