How are governments unreliable?

Your career options won't be great.

English is actually the best of the Humanities majors, and it wouldn't be so bad if English weren't such a popular major. Here's my own list of English careers, but keep in mind that finding job opportunities is always difficult due to the level of competition, and the fact that people with other degrees are also able to do those jobs.

You basically have 5 options:
1) Teaching. High school level, or get a Masters to teach college, or a PhD to teach university.
2) Journalism. Unfortunately, print media is dying and the job market is awful. Don't try Journalism unless you're passionate about it and will settle for nothing else.
3) Publishing. Trying to get in with a publishing company is one of your better options. It could help to get a certificate in Editing afterward to get a foot in the door as an editor, and try to make lateral moves to different parts of the company.
4) Editing. You can simply work as an editor, either freelance or for various companies/agencies.
5) Technical writing and copy writing. Copy writers are responsible for making the words that go on various things from advertisements, to pamphlets, or any piece of written communication. Technical writers are an expert on some other topic, and write things like instructional manuals and tutorial guides for inexperienced users.

History is a little worse off. There aren't really any great opportunities for History, aside from the same teaching options described above. For the most part, History is best used as a foundation degree to go into Law school, or as a double major paired with something more employable.

If you want to be a teacher, you have a lot of options. Plenty of universities offer an education major, and i'll leave the research to you as to which one is best.

The credits you will need can be found on each university's website. For English and History, it's likely that only English 4U will be required.
