Writing Job Ads
Elsie Said:
What should i write in the email when attaching my resume in response to online job ads?We Answered:
1. Subject Line. The subject line is very important because it’s one of the first things the recipient will see, it may be a deciding factor in whether they even open your email, it could cause your email to get filtered to a junk folder, and it will contribute to the first impression they have of you. If you are replying to an advertisement, there may be specific instructions about what to write and if so, make sure you follow them exactly. If you do not have any instructions, summarize the purpose of your email in the subject line with as few words as possible, for example “Management Opportunities” or “Referral from John Doe.”
2. Body of the Email. Write something short and professional like the following:
Dear Mr./Ms. Doe:
Please accept the attached resume and cover letter for the advertised position of Sales Associate. I have attached these files in both Word and PDF formats; please let me know if you have any trouble opening or viewing these documents. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Job-Seeker

3. Attach your resume and cover letter.
Good luck!
