My degree was in communications, basically journalism -- i have worked in television since I got out of college. Just got laid off from a mid-level position in TV Promotions. And am having no luck finding anything that I remotely qualify for. Take classes on Website development and you'll be set. Learn HTML, Dreamweaver, Flash, and all those programs. You'll be able to find a job tomorrow. I kick myself everyday for not being able to do this--YET.

We Answered:

Breaking into the journalism field is never easy. I got my first reporting job accidentally. I have a BA in English/Communications but specialized in broadcast media more so than print media. I ended up working for a small newspaper for many years.

Most reporters I knew got into the job by working as stringers and working on tabs. If there writing stood up they were hired. I lived in a small town so it maybe different elsewhere.

What ever you do, keep all your writing clips. They will be needed for interviews.
