Good for you. I'm also not a spring chicken and i'm also changing career at the moment after thinking there must be more to life! It can be hard going, but persevere, as it is possible to do what you want. Can you renew your old contacts in radio? I would recommend contacting BBC radio at the mailbox as you are in Birmingham, there may also be some independent production companies you could contact to speak to and ask for advice. You could consider work experience/shadowing if you can get time off work. Courses in the area are a great idea to update your skills and so that you get to know people who know people to give you access to new opportunities. It's all out there!
