Review Writing Jobs

Robin Said:

Where can I find freelance writing jobs?

We Answered:

Dear Aspire:

The best way to find freelance writing jobs is to market directly to companies. You're wise to stay away from bidding sites.

I speak from personal experience. I've been a freelance writer since 1993, owned an editorial staffing from 1997-2004, and now head an SEO Content Writing and Distribtion Firm (New Media Words (NewMediaWords.biz)).

Before you start marketing, following is what you need to do.

1. Pull together some web-length writing samples (5-10 is sufficient 400-500 words in length). Your samples should reflect the niche you want to get work in.

2. Get a website: A basic one is all you need. Make it clean and professional.

3. Start marketing -- TO BUSINESSES DIRECTLY. This can be via cold calling (very effective, yet scary for many); email (another excellent way to bring in leads); and/or via social media marketing outlets like Twitter (effective once you've built up some steam).

I've published an entire library of ebooks on how to start, grow or maintain a freelance writing career. You can find them all at http://InkwellEditorial.com/bizguides.htm.

Final note: Don't be afraid to charge a living rate. Many freelancers are, especially when they first start out. There's good-paying work out there; you just have to have the confidence -- and the know how -- to go after it.

Much success to you!
