Poetry Writing Jobs

Jeff Said:

Could you Name a Job to do with Poetry? (Except writing Poetry) ?

We Answered:

Maybe you could be a poetry book editor that makes notes on poetry and puts the comments in the book. or how about a teacher .. umm that's all I can think of.. it hard lol i want to do the same thing with American Literature (1900-50's) but idk what jobs there are for that

Gail Said:

What kind of jobs are there with poetry?

We Answered:

Virtually nobody makes a living from poetry. Even the best-known published poets usually rely on some other source of income. Many poets support themselves as teachers. If you major in creative writing as a college undergraduate, you will probably have to go on to get an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree if you hope to get a good teaching job.

Troy Said:

what are good paying jobs involving poetry?

We Answered:

i am not saying u cant be a poet but it is very hard to just write poems for a living i mean u don't get paid much
if he is good at writing then why not write poems as a Hobie for now but find a good job that also interests him and then maybe in the Futur but all his poems together find someone who will help to i don't no but make a book or something
anyway this is just my opinion all the best with urs and ur friends life

Chris Said:

I love writing poetry and think that i do a very good job at it. How can I make money doing it???

We Answered:

1 - compile a book of your poetry and publish it
2 - open a cafe/bar with poetry readings as the entertainment
3- create a poetry cd if you have a nice voice with backround music and sell it - promote yourself by doing poetry readings where you can find them (its basically what bands do when they start out in the music industry )

Toni Said:

Where can I start writing poetry?

We Answered:

The book "Poet's Market" (your local library might have a copy) can give you lots of information about print and online journals that publish poetry. You can also check this site for a listing of poetry journals:

http://www.newpages.com/litmags/

Most journals do not pay for the poems they publish. Most books of poetry do not sell very many copies. And most poets earn only a tiny amount of money, if any, when they give public readings. Even the best-known, most widely published poets do not make a living from their poetry. They support themselves with other jobs, often as college or university teachers.
