Bob Said:

I would love to pursue a part time job involving writing? What options are available to me...if any?

We Answered:

I would simply begin writing.
Write about whatever you want,or whatever your interested in.
If I understand the arts correctly, you should live in your work.
So do what you want and write what makes you happy.
Marketing it is next.
Depending on what you like to write about you can market yourself to many different sources.
You can simply send them in to newspapers, magazines etc.. If your story trumps one they were gonna run then your in.

Alot of people make alot of money off blogs also. You can write how-to articles or short stories etc...
If a novel is what your looking forward too then simply use your creativity to put some spin on a few articles for magazine or newspaper submission to raise the money to publish your book yourself.
You can publish as little as 1000 books through online companies, and i'm sure you can publish just 10 if you wanted too.

So do what makes you happy, then find a way to market it.

Norman Said:

you have a part time job writing Consumer concerns column for your local newspaper.?

We Answered:

The first thing I would calculate is the break even point to determine how many loads when the cost of both is equal. I will set up the problem and leave it up to you to finish it.

Helpmate dryer
Listed at $520
Costs 22.5 cents to dry an average load.

Whirl-grab dryer
Listed at $729
Costs 15.8 cents to dry an average load.

Let L = number of loads.
Helpmate cost = Whirl-garb cost
$520 + 22.5L = $729 + 15.8L
22.5L - 15.8L = 729 - 520
6.7L = 209
L = 31.19 loads

So at 31.19 loads, the costs are equal between the two.

Finally, we test when the loads are < 31.19 and when the loads are > 31.19

When L = 31
Helpmate cost = Whirl-garb cost
$520 + 22.5(31) = $729 + 15.8(31)

When L = 32
Helpmate cost = Whirl-grab cost
$520 + 22.5(32) = $729 + 15.8(32)

So which is cheaper when L < 31.19 and which is cheaper when L > 31.19?

Discuss It!
