Are There Any Freelance Opportunities For Erotic/Horror Writers?

We Answered:

If you want to make money online, go for freelancing jobs. The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. You dont need to pay to get the job. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want.

Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes.

What opportunities will there be for Writers in the 21st century?

We Answered:

Sad to say, as you mentioned, not many read anymore. Except them 'twilight' fanatics who haven't read another book in their life and don't know good literature. I guess you can use your writing experiences to write for a movie. You could also probably write books on the new e-book style stuff and sell it on their market place.

Marcia Said:

Why is it so much harder for writers to get grants to help them?

We Answered:

Painting costs a LOT of money - paints themselves cost $7 for a small tube, canvas are expensive, and brushes are the biggest hit of all. Sculptors, I assume, have to buy their own clay and sculpting knives.

Writing on the other hand, is pretty cheap. Electrcity for the word processor, and you're good to go.

Is the Hollywood writers strike giving non-union writers more opportunities?

We Answered:

Daytime TV may be using some scabs or union writers who have basically renounced their membership in order to keep their shows going.

The non-union opportunities will still be scarce. There will be some for productions that are done by non-attached production companies (true independent films) but the more likely route for work to be produced right now is through side agreements.

The WGA didn't take kindly to scabs in the last strike and I wouldn't be surprised if scabs are blacklisted after this one.

Tammy Said:

Why do so many young or beginning writers eschew opportunities to learn and improve their craft?

We Answered:

Writing is a solitary activity, and it's also one where the rewards for hard work often come years after the work is completed, if at all. As a working writer, I know that the hunger for community, a sense that there are other writers who are facing the same challenges, is a big part of the writing life. Also, it's possible to work for a long time without validation of one's abilities or accomplishments.

My answer, then, is that these young writers often don't really care as much about the content of the answers to their questions as they care about being part of a literary community and having their identity as writers validated. While a question such as "help me with this idea" may sometimes be exactly what it seems, I think it is often cover for the real question, which is something along the lines of "Am I a real writer? Are my ideas any good? Should I keep doing this?"
