Larry Said:

please see the offer letter BP UK and advice to this offer letter is true or fales?

We Answered:

Are you moving to this country to work? If so, do you have a work permit? Have they asked to see it? If not, I would say it is a hoax - you need a work permit to gain employment in this country from overseas.

Don't bother emailing them to ask if it is genuine - if it is a hoax - they will just email back saying it is.

Find the number for BP from the internet or directory (NOT this email) and call and ask for the man quoted on the email. If he answers, ask him to confirm that you have been appointed as a member of staff.

Do not use any contacts on the email, as if it is a hoax, you will be asking the hoaxers if it is a hoax or not and they will obviously say no.

Unmarried Partner Visa UK?

We Answered:

There are no exceptions to the 2 year rule. You could have lived together for two years if, for example, he was on a work visa to the US and you lived together then. Or you were on a student visa in the UK for 2 years and lived with him then. Or perhaps you were both working in a third country like Australia and lived together there.

Your only option is to either try to find a company to sponsor you to the UK, then live with him and apply for the Unmarried Partner Visa after living together for 2 years. Or get accepted into a university and study for 2 years and live together. Or have him apply for a Fiance visa for you and you get married within 90 days of arriving.

As for applying for entry clearance, you have to find out which visa category you fall under and apply for that. The forms are on the Home Office Border Agency website. If you are approved, you will get an entry clearance letter that you need to bring to your closest UK Embassy/consulate to get the visa in your passport before you move to the UK

Anita Said:

Is this a job scam? Found job on Craigslist.org?

We Answered:

It's 100% a scam, the real company does not ever use a free @live.com email or @mail.com

The real company emails are only @lightningcarcompany.co.uk - these scammers are using a real company name but have nothing to do with the actual company

Besides a UK company cannot employ US employees without having a legal US business registered. If they don't have a US business address then they cannot employ US workers even as home workers. They need a US tax ID number in order to pay US workers, and they cant get that without a registered US address and merchant banking account

And that's not written by a British English speaker. This is a Nigerian or Ghanaian scam, you can tell by the grammar and the odd capitalisation of words in the middle of sentences

Did you even try emailing the real company through their website http://www.lightningcarcompany.co.uk/con… or enquiries@lightningcarcompany.co.uk
They will confirm they have nothing to do with this

Do not do the interview or send any information, it's an identity theft scam that will then try to use you as a money mule. This same scam has been going around for years but they just change the company name every few weeks

Writing courses, publishing?

We Answered:

Local evening classes are a good place to start and usually not too expensive. Check what writing courses your local colleges run.

Have a look at Open College of the Arts and the Open University distance learning / online courses.

Arvon Foundation runs some fantastic weekend courses (grants available).

I see the British Council recommends The Writers' Bureau for correspondence courses.

For your other questions, get a copy of Writers' and Artists' Year Book from the library or buy from bookshop - tells you how to submit work, get an agent, write a covering letter, lay out your manuscript.

(Above only applies if you are in UK)

What is the situation in US regarding jobs?

We Answered:

It depends on what field you study, and how strong your graduate program is - how respected. If you were to study computer science at MIT, I'd dare say you'd be in the best possible shape to find a job in the US when you were done. But if you study computer science at a university with little respect... U Bridgeport recruits a lot in India, for example, but they are not "wow" - you'd face difficulty.

The issue is that in the US, an employer needs to want you so badly that they're willing to sponsor your work visa. So you need to study a field that's in demand here, and go to a very strong graduate program.

If you know that's not an option for you, then you may instead want to study in Canada or the UK. It's easier to get permission to stay and work in Canada than it is in the US. And in the UK, you're allowed to stay for a year after you finish your program and work, without needing a visa at all. In fact, if you study in Scotland, you're allowed to stay two years.
