I need to find an online writer's group?

We Answered:

I use fictionpress.com, but I'm not sure how secure it is.

You might try the message boards on NaNoWriMo.org. Both are free.

Where can I find a good online writer's group?

We Answered:

First I'd like to address your age question - no way is there such a thing as too old to start writing fiction! In fact, the older you are, the more experience and wisdom you have to draw from as a writing resource.

I used to belong to various online critique groups - some were helpful, others, not so much. The one I still utilize and find the most helpful is Zoetrope, which is a creative site started by Francis Ford Coppola. In order to have your writing reviewed by your peers there, you must first critique other people's work. For every set number of stories you critique, you are allowed to submit one of your own stories for review. I've received lots of great constructive criticism through that site.

If I want to be a newspaper or online writer, are there any majors I can take besides journalism?

We Answered:

You could major in mass media, communications or marketing (my former editor majored in history!), but the bottom line is daily newspapers look for journalism majors.

I went to a 4-year university (before the internet), and you could choose between print, broadcast or public relations/advertising in J-School. Contact the schools you're interested in attending after getting your two-year degree, and find out what they offer.

Finally, only people who aren't in the media think broadcasters are the only reporters out there!

What would I have to do to become a graffiti writer?

We Answered:

well first you have to love what you do and have to love graffiti.
You have to learn how to do it.Try to learn to do pieces and not the lame tags you see around which create an eye sore.
Graffiti is a lifestyle similar to someone loving hip hop all their life or art all their life etc.I have done it for over 20 years now.I done a nice burner piece only 2 days ago in Bangkok facing the trains. It was a legal wall and i pay the owner to do it so you can get maybe 5-10,000 people seeing it everyday. It was nice 3d style. You have to learn to piece first.Get a sketchbook and practise.Do outlines and characters. When i was younger i was lame at characters but still practised on paper anyway for years and years .Now my character's are dope. You just gotta stick with it and don't give up!
Good books would be Subway Art by Henry Chalfant or Spraycan Art by Henry Chalfant. These are the original oldskool books of where it all came from.Good web sites would be:12 oz prophet.com or Aerosoltalent.com also do a graffiti search for Daim or Peeta.Daim is recognised as possibly the best writer in the world and Peeta's work will blow you away too.Any more advice let me know.Good luck.P.s if you want ,one of my pieces was chosen the best out of about 2000 on one of the editions of aerosol talent i will find out what edition so you can see!
