Seeking work in research and writing/non medical?

We Answered:

Is there a particular reason you aren't interested in medical writing? I've worked as a medical writer for more than 16 years now, and it has been a very satisfying profession for me. I love the research as well as the writing aspect of it.

You should be aware that there are many kinds of medical writing. You might be thinking of regulatory writing, which is a very scientific kind of writing, and that's not for everyone. But medical writing also includes writing patient-education materials and creating sales-training materials, as well. Here's a link to an article about how to break into the freelance medical writing field: http://EzineArticles.com/?id=1948959

Once you learn more about the field, I think you'll see that working in this niche has lots of potential.

Can I use my Bachelor of Arts degree to find a medical job?

We Answered:

If you're looking for something specifically in the medical field, you're probably going to have to get a related degree. Even if it's something like medical billing or records. However, there may be some more administrative jobs where a just a bachelor's degree might be sufficient. Something like public relations.

EDIT
There are a number of medical related fields - such as transcription, billing, etc - where you can get certification in about 2 years.

You won't really be able to short cut on anything that actually required patient care such as x-ray tech or phlebotomist. These fields require very specific training and many of the programs take 2-3 years.
