Legal Writing Jobs

Ruby Said:

If I have have accepted a job in writing but have not signed a contract, can I pull out without any legal ?

We Answered:

If you've accepted a job in writing, you have a contract (even thought it may not be labeled as such). It's your reputation for not honoring it.

There can always be something legal filed against you. The question is, "Will it?" If the employer isn't out anything, then he probably won't come after you. If, however, you accepted a signing bonus or a company car, he has every right to expect to get that bonus back or bill you for the mileage you put on the car.

Vera Said:

the instant degrees are legal that we can get a degree in 5 days. is it true?

We Answered:

Diploma mills provide instant degrees. Although they are legal, they are also unethical. If you purchase a degree that you did not "earn", then you are lying when you say you have a college education.

Getting a legal assistant job with no experience writing the coverletter?

We Answered:

Dear Sir,
Apropos your advertisement for the post of " legal receptionist" , please find herewith my resume for favor of your consideration.
I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that i would be an apt candidate for the above post, and i am undergoing paralegal course.
Since paralegal certificate is only preferred and not mandatory, i have ventured to apply for this post, and if selected i shall prove myself worthy of the confidence imposed in me.
Thanking you in anticipation,

I love writing legal briefs - suggest a career for me?

We Answered:

Get your law degree and specialize in appeals. That is all appellate lawyers do. I am an appellate lawyer and I love it! Another option is to get a law degree and work for West Publishing analyzing and summarizing new opinions when they are released by the courts. Both would pay over $40K/yr. Paralegal ideas are cool but most of them spend their time summarizing medical records, interviewing clients, doing investigations or analyzing and summarizing documents. Most lawyers do their own difficult motions and I don't let anyone touch my appellate briefs b/c the act of putting them together, of reading the record on appeal and learning the case and seeing it from a different perspective is what makes my arguments and my case good. Good luck.

What should I use for a writing sample for a legal secretary job interview?

We Answered:

Go in with a one page resume and a one page cover letter. Have a sheet with hand written references listed to offer at the end of the interview if you think you'll like the job. A good resume should show some of your ability to organize a document, the cover letter (addressed to the person doing the interview, using their title if they have one) should demonstrate grammer and writing skills and your written reference list will show your handwriting skills. NO SPELLING MISTAKES!!! Express your eagerness to learn and develop a career in the legal field. Leave personal baggage at home, have a smile and present a good attitude toward work. Prepare some questions about the firm and the types of law they practice. Relax, enjoy the experience and soak up the legal atmosphere.

Best of luck to you in your interview and your career.
