Jobs For Journalism

Samantha Said:

Are there any journalism jobs for 15-16 year olds?

We Answered:

Heck if I know. What you should do is find out by asking places that hire journalists... They may have a youth section in the paper you could start at but I highly doubt they would let a young person write about politics or history unless you are a genius. Can't hurt to try though, best of luck.

Gabriel Said:

Are there any online teen (like 14 yrs old) journalism jobs?

We Answered:

A good site to look at if you want to write online for money is Constant content http://www.constant-content.com/?aref=43… tells you exactly how much you will be paid before you send your work to them althoguh be warned they want good work with no errors. Another site is http://www.triond.com/rw/386234 which pays per person to view your work so it can be very littel money at first but builds up the more you are willing to work at it. As with anything in life iff you put effort in can work for you if you expect to get money for nothing then probably meet a lot of scams

Melanie Said:

How do I create a portfolio for journalism jobs?

We Answered:

Someone looking to hire you will want to know your writing style, so preferrably place your published work first, starting with the recent and the ones you are proudest of.

It would be good to have a quality .pdf file of your published work that you can keep online and have it accessible to people who are viewing your work. Also include your unpublished work, but second. I think pdf files are better but if you must include some other format (jpg or txt) do so.

You can open a free webpage here with yahoo and upload all those files there, if they are not too big. Include a link to your files with your resume.

Duane Said:

where to look for jobs, recent journalism graduate?

We Answered:

http://www.mediabistro.com/joblistings/ is a site that includes a lot of 'journalism-related' jobs, like PR, advertising, and online.

One tip: if you're looking for a job writing for online, make sure that you can show that you're doing it already. Update your blog regularly, and contribute to online forums. Any potential employer is going to look at that experience first.

Rick Said:

How should writing samples look for journalism jobs?

We Answered:

For an in-person interview some people use a formal portfolio with either all or some of their best work. But what I do is copy three or four of my best clips and put them in a folder (it doesn't have to be fancy). This way I can leave the clips with the person I am interviewing with. I also include my resume and references in the folder. The editor can look at them at his or her leisure. I also have electronic copies (most often scanned copies of the actual final product compressed into pdf format) for e-mail purposes. Believe me, editors aren't looking for fancy. They are looking at your writing. They want someone who can write, not someone who can put together a pretty portfolio.
