Grant Writing Job

Patrick Said:

i want to write a book and need a government grant to pay for it and my living expenses while writing?

We Answered:

Oh! so *that's* where my taxes went.

Victor Said:

which job field has the best prospects: book indexing or grant writing?

We Answered:

Grant writing has been a deadend for the last 8 years. Very few grants. Book indexing is one of the lowest paying jobs in the USA, just below Medical Transcriptionist. Since both are fading fast, i pick Book Indexing..

Daniel Said:

Are you in Development/ fundraising/ grant writing? If so, do you like your job?

We Answered:

I'm a Statistician/Development Associate and while I really do like my job, I want to get more into the grant writing aspect. I LOVE where I work because they actually WANT me to move into the grant writing position next year and still keep my current position(s)- which is just what I wanted! I hate being bored and now that I see your comment, I know my suspicions about the repetitive nature of grant writing are probably pretty accurate. :-) It makes sense in my job for me to be Statistician/Development Associate/Grant Writer because being the stats person, I know everything about the shelter demographics, which is essential to the grant writing position. And being Development Assoc., I get to interact with all the people we get funding from and learn a thing or two.

I probably won't feel this way once I start grant writing- I'll probably think I was crazy to do it all! But I really do hate down time and boredom, so maybe not... :-)

Victoria Said:

Carrer in grant writing?

We Answered:

Dear Paige:

Grant writers come from pretty much all walks of life. Psychology is an excellent start. It provides you with a good analytical base. I would recommend balancing it with something creative or business/strategy oriented. Something related to nonprofit management or finance would also be helpful. I would also like to invite you to join the For GrantWriters Only learning community as you explore your options. More than 365 grant professionals from around the world are members, and they may have additional insights for you as you get started. There is no cost to join the community.
