Freelance Writers Work

Misty Said:

Are there any writer's groups in Sydney Australia I can join? Freelance writers sharing their work?

We Answered:

There's one in the Rocks that I know of.
I'm not too sure where abouts though. But I know they meet every first Tuesday of the month.

Tony Said:

How does home-based freelance writer work? How do they get paid?

We Answered:

You get paid once your work is submitted and passes the company's approval. Some companies will pay you by check, direct deposit or pay pal.

Before giving out your bank account # make sure that you are dealing with a legitimate company first. I have had many work from home companies pay me but I have made sure to research a company in advance before giving out my personal info.

Do writer's software work? For freelance writers?

We Answered:

No editors don't usually accept the format, just use Microsoft Word and study your grammar.
Try some of these sites, they might help.

Freelance writers?

This site used to have a "how much to charge" page, but it's gone. Haven't looked at it in a while, but you might find good info here.

Anyway, it really depends on what you write, your experience/skill level, who you write for .... If you have an idea of who you want to write for, (magazines, businesses - especially website text, newspapers) and you're just starting out, send a letter or email to these businesses. Start locally. Ask just as you've done here and I'm sure you'll get some realistic info and maybe some 1st jobs!

The money might be small at first, but your reputation and skill will build and you could make a salary for yourself. I enjoy freelance work now for the flexibility, freedom, potential, being the boss; however, I learned SO much when I worked in a large company, and at a newspaper. I had several terrific mentors and good structure, i.e., job security, steady pay, insurance, 8-5 work day, techical experts at hand, training, etc. All depends on what your goal is. Good luck!
