Freelance Work Opportunities

Does anyone know a website for freelance work?We Answered:
I hate those bid sites like you mention (and I love Gilmore Girls!). I get paid upfront, average of $15/ 500 word article or $30/hour, from Demand Studios. There's always something interesting to write about and it's none of that mindless SEO drivel. They pay weekly and I know they're hiring now.Submit a resume and writing sample here if you're interested: https://www.demandstudios.com/applicatio…

Are there any freelance opportunities with a B.S. in Chemistry? We Answered:
Not really- chemistry requires tons of infrastructure to perform - those lab benches, bunsen burners, different flasks, analytical equipment, etc. doesn't come cheap - so someone has to pay for it. If a company is willing to invest that sort of money in equipment and facilities, they will want people who will want to stay on a regular, full-time basis. When you mention freelance, that sounds almost like a contractor basis which is pretty much lower than dirt in terms of pay and especially benefits. Although you can leave the company whenever you'd feel like it, you'll be more worried about them letting you go.
Finally, the previous person mentioned a consultant and the related work. You have to have some established knowledge for a number of years before you can become a consultant. Ideally, a consultant's background not only includes years of both academic and corporate chemistry experience, but extras like writing textbooks, teaching abroad, etc.

Is it better to offer any freelance services to close friends and family rather than online? We Answered:
No, I used to freelance to fam and friends and it is a big mistake. Never go into professional relationships with personal contacts, they don't exist well together.Allison Said:
I want to be a freelance translator online, where can i get work ?We Answered:
One of the best places to look might be the work-for-bid sites, like elance.com (mentioned), or, some of these:http://odesk.com
http://getafreelancer.com
Odesk will probably pay more, if you can pass the tests needed to take on jobs. However, it can mimic employment, almost, except that you do work from home.
Alternately, you can search craigslist -- I see translating jobs on there all the time. You might want to use a site like:
http://www.searchtempest.com/
To search Craigslist, though -- it would be much easier.
Also, here's an article on how to find freelance jobs using Twitter:

Even if you don't have a Twitter account, you can still search for US-based jobs using the service.
Good luck.

How to do freelance work for a company I already work fulltime for but don't want overtime pay just a set fee?We Answered:
Depends how they pay for the freelancing. Sometimes they pay per day of work and not hourly. At least in my state, there was no conflict (CA) that way with overtime. Also, you could set up a sole proprietorship and work as an independent business.
Good Luck!

Does freelance work affect unemployment benefits in PA?We Answered:
Yes, he legally has to report it. Not doing do so will disqualify him from getting it in the future as well as may lead to prosecution. In Pennsylvania, the first 40% of your benefit doesn't reduce your payment. After that each dollar lowers your benefit one dollar.
So say his benefit is $300, 40% of that is $120, so he can make $120 and still get the whole $300. If he makes $121, he only gets $299. If he makes more than $420 (300 + 120), he gets nothing for that week. Once the freelancing contract is done, he would be able to continue collecting the full benefit.
