What kind of writing do you do?
If you live in or near a large city why not contact a local newspaper for leads?
If you are writing tech articles then contact someone in your field first.
You have to beware of online sharks.
I belong to a local writers group. If you can find one in your area they may have some information.
Call the library and ask them if they know of a local writers group.
We love to have new members and I am sure they will too.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

To hire? Read their writing. Notice their interests and if you want a factual article on your business, don't hire a self help guru.

PayPal and wire transfer are good, but YOU pay a fee for it.

A freelance writer, is just that, you write an article and sell it to someone.

You either work for a company as a staff writer, or you are freelance, so I would say be very careful, these companies are changing the meanings of words, and that usually means they are trying to trick you.
