Freelance Music Writing Jobs

Tim Said:

Cannot decide what to do - Radiology Technology, Surgical Technology, Phlebotomy, RN/LPN?

We Answered:

I would definitely be either a rad-tech or the lpn. The phlebotomy jobs are a dime a dozen and don't pay very well. Rad-techs make decent money and the jobs are usually easy to find. Or you can become an lpn, work for a year or two, then go for another year or so and be an rn. An lpn makes more than any phlebotomist, and you can move into the rn field easier and make serious money.

Anthony Said:

Becoming a journalist?

We Answered:

First of all, you're on the right track. By writing for your school paper and writing stories online, you're already gaining experience. Keep doing that, as much as possible. If you hear of any other opportunities to write, such as for a church publication or scout group or small local newspaper, definitely try to be part of it. Classroom work is great, and very important, but there is nothing like really writing stories and working with experienced editors.

Few publications are going to hire someone who doesn't have a college degree. Your guidance counselor can suggest colleges that offer a journalism degree. For music reporting, you'd want to take some music classes too, or even minor in music. However, journalism should be your major.

Once you get to college, try to get an internship at a newspaper or magazine. It really won't matter which one, since you'll probably only work there for one summer, but you'll learn more in that period of time than you can even imagine.

As for Rolling Stone, they do have some staff writers, and they also accept freelance material. A staff position would be pretty hard to get, and they'd probably be looking for someone with experience at another magazine. To get details about what they'd expect from a freelancer, get a copy of the book "Writer's Market." It's updated every year, and it has thousands of ideas and opportunities in it (such as magazines that you may never have heard of, but accept freelance stories). You could start some of this before you're out of high school. It takes a lot of work, and you'll face quite a bit of rejection, but the successes will be terrific.

Hugh Said:

Why does my mom laughs at my career status?

We Answered:

If you're making good money from your freelance work, you have nothing to worry about. Your mom is just somebody who cannot get their head around the freelance concept. She thinks a "proper" job is going out to work every day to work for an employer

Mae Said:

What should I do with my life becuz I am unsure?

We Answered:

these things are just out of your control. why doesnt he like her? move out with your bf if your so unhappy. your mom is so selfish, and your not a terrible person, you have not done anything wrong

put your foot down because enough is enough. you made your choice, why cant she just give you the respect you deserve and accept it. does she want you to be alone the rest of your life?
and tell you bf to try to be more nice to her; at least stop showing his resentment, shes your mom. and if theres going to be any future between you 2, shes going to end up as his mother in law

Erica Said:

Can anybody think of sort-of stable jobs for a creative person?

We Answered:

If its MUSIC your interested in, I suggest applying for a job at a music store.

If you choose to be an ARTIST, I suggest finding an Art Studio nearby (we have Art 101 near us) and yes, teaching there. You have to start somewhere.

You can always be an author.
