Gina Said:

Does anyone know how you become a freelance copywriter in the UK?

We Answered:

Sounds like a good opportunity for you to set up your own business. I think there is a demand for good copy writers.

my advice would be to 1st set-up a company how to do that in basic terms is

1. think of a name - somthing you like
2. decide on your legal set-up i.e sole trader or limited company - the link bellow will answer 3 of your questions
3. register with companies house if you need to
4. open a bank account - so you can get paid - there is link attached when you can free templates from for your invoices (check out all the banks because they have good offers for new businesses. I've used barclays and they have been ok
5. you will need a brand - logo(to put on your invoice), stationary, website(if you want more work to come through)

the links below are numbered and refer to the points above

i'm also looking for a good copywriter my email address is alam@c8imc.co.uk plus if you need any further advice i'm sure i can point you in the right direction

good look with it all

Does anyone know where I can find part-time, telecommuting freelance copywriting jobs?

We Answered:

Have you tried looking in Craig's List http://www.craigslist.org ?

It is a great resource for finding pat-time telecommute jobs. I say this because there is a search option to only list telecommute jobs AND part time jobs, but the stupid thing is that you can only search jobs for one city at a time... which is a pain if you are looking for telecommuting jobs.

This site: http://www.telecommutejoblist.com/ posts the result of a multi-city (all) job search on Craig's List with the Telecommute option checked.

Good Luck!

How much experience do I need to be a freelance copywriter?

We Answered:

Everybody has to start somewhere, so go ahead and apply. I'd suggest a cover letter or email expressing your interest and being honest about your lack of experience. Any samples of your writing you can supply would be helpful; I'd definitely mention the blog, as you can give the address for it and the person can check it out if they like.

A couple of pieces of advice about freelancing: make sure you can discipline yourself to work and meet deadlines--meeting deadlines is at least as important as the quality of your work. Keep track of everything and remember that whatever rate you are being paid should cover your taxes (including a big bite for SS taxes) and other expenses that an employer might cover (e.g., health insurance, retirement savings).

Tom Said:

are you a freelance copywriter? do you have advice for me?

We Answered:

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Start & Run a Copywriting Business by Steve Slaunwhite
* The Copywriter's Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing Copy That Sells by Robert W. Bly
* Start and Run a Profitable Freelance Writing Business: Your Step- By-Step Business Plan (Self-Counsel Business Series) by Christine A. Adamec
* How to Become a Fulltime Freelance Writer: A Practical Guide to Setting Up a Successful Writing Business at Home (Road Map to Your Writing Career) by Michael A. Banks
* The Well-Fed Writer: Financial Self-Sufficiency As a Freelance Writer in Six Months or Less by Peter Bowerman
* The Freelance Success Book: Insider Secrets for Selling Every Word You Write (Write It, Sell It) by David Taylor
* Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer: How to Win Top Writing Assignments by Jenna Glatzer

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
