There's no such thing as a "free-lance editorial." The Sun-Times employs its own in-house editorial board to write editorials. If you're talking about an opinion column, established columnists are paid based on their columns' syndication, which is basically the number of newspapers and Web sites that publish them. To have such a syndicated column run in a paper like the Sun-Times, you have to be pretty much be nationally known, have years of experience, have a Pulitzer, or all three.

If you have an opinion that you want published in the Sun-Times, your best bet would be to write a letter to the editor.
