What is a good way to find Freelance work for artist? We Answered:
Blackjack, I am not an artist but I run a small business. I'm doing better than OK, but that's it - I mention this so you can evaluate my advice:1. Develop your portfolio with your potential customers in mind.
2. Approach some likely customers on a "get-acquainted" basis, i.e., a school photographer who wants to increase volume and would like to spend less time clearing up kids' complexions in their photos, and ask what, if any help they might use. They won't know or try to discourage you, and that is when your real conversation starts. Ask if they might be able to increase the volume and revenue of their business if they could simply send the photos to someone reliable for touch up.
Consider the same approach with very local, small to medium size website owners. Don't know the Maya software (so maybe this is redundant) but if you have any website development expertise offer to become the webmaster for small businesses, or ally yourself with a small time website geek and do this together.
3. Approach your former employer as a contract employee - when they have your work, they contract it out to you. Approach their competitors with the same idea; after all, you have experience in that industry.
4. Go to temp agencies and do a great job on your contracts - this way you get a rep and it is easier to build your own client base, and of course, you get paid!
Get some word of mouth going by volunteering some work for the Chamber of Commerce or go to their meeting and network.
Bottom line: start with a portfolio and what you know. Have a great looking product and contact customers like your last employer - this is the low hanging fruit.
Good luck!

How can I find freelance photography? We Answered:
How you get the work would depend on what type of photography, so you would need to decide that first. Don't waste your time with stock photo companies. The regular stock photo companies are not doing so well because of the micro payment sites. If you deal with the micro payment companies you are looking at about 50 cents an image. They will lead you to believe that you will make money with quantity, but there is too much competition and it takes too long to process the thousands of photos it would take to make any significant amount of money. There is also a lot of competition in the freelance market. I had an occasion to sub contract a job that was too far for me to drive for the amount of money. As soon as I posted the ad I was flooded with photographers willing to drive 100 miles for a 100 dollar job.
Best thing you can do is to try and find a niche that someone else is not already doing, then advertise.
