Entry Level Writing Jobs

Jacqueline Said:

Entry level writing job?

We Answered:

I can recommend http://PaymentKey.com, but it's only for the money during college rather than something that would be good for your resume. It's still writing, though, so that might be personally fufilling.

Just like you, I'm in college. I use it to earn extra cash. I get paid based on how well I write to meet response goals, rather than per word. I can write about my choice of a wide selection of products and services. The work is always available to me.

I am not making anything by telling you this. Just trying to help. :)

Entry level jobs for lyric writing?

We Answered:

Sorry...this is the sort of "dream job" that has 100,000 applicants for every opening...maybe at a record label. You are better off finding a local musician to collaborate with.

What are some entry level jobs for an English major?

We Answered:

Teaching. Legal practices. Marketing and advertising. Everybody needs good writers. Copywriting or editing work.

I want to pursue a career in writing, what entry-level jobs should I be trying to get?

We Answered:

Start freelancing to build up your portfolio. It takes time but if you search the internet everyday you'll find some good opportunities. Also, you can volunteer your time at a charity doing press releases and newsletters. This will give you portfolio pieces and give you contacts.

For actual jobs, try getting an internship at a newspaper or magazine. Paid writing jobs usually start with proofreading and copyediting.

Good luck!

How to get an entry level writing job that allows for some creativity?

We Answered:

That depends a lot on what sort of writing you want to do AND what sort of writing you're good at. Both factors are key. I have BA in creative writing, and I am a public relations professional - I got my foot in the door writing press releases for my college, writing for the school and town newspapers and doing some freelance writing.

If you want an entry-level writing job, go to your local newspaper and see if they have any openings - you can be creative in how you state the facts. If creativity is the most important thing to you, look for entry-level marketing or advertising positions - these jobs are often writing-intensive (NOT the telemarketing jobs that some companies post as "marketing") and can lead to positions of more responsibility. They're also incredibly lucrative. Also, check local magazines and check freelance-writing web sites for jobs. You have to do what your client wants, but a good living can be made if you are truly a good writer.
