Austin, I'm a senior in High school and i'm doing a project which has required me to do alot of reaserch about Austin, and I found several articles.From Forbes, Yahoo and USA weekly and Austin ranked high in job creation(9th), job opertunities(4th), low cost of living(7th)(big cities), and safest places to live(cities with 200,000 +)(6th).I've been to both cities several times and Austin has just has many places to go and stuff to do. Besides San Antonio is less than an hour drive(about the same drive rom Dallas to Ft. Worth in traffic) if you want to go up the road to do stuff.

I'm a little bit like you. I've been told I'm creative and artistic, yet no one is interested in stick people art. Ever think about checkin' into Macy's, Nordstrom's, Nieman's??? You could work in the windows...do wall displays. Working with the elderly (yes in a nursing home...you'll never feel more rewarded, appreciated and wow, what an amazing source of cultural history) as an activities director. Look into working with adults or children with disabilities doing the same. Most community colleges offer allied health programs for the activity director. It's a quick, two or four week program which will provide you with knowledge to go along with your skills. You sound fairly articulate and intelligent, in addition to having talent and desire. Go for it!

Dallas is bigger and has more of a job market. So so social and dating scene, plenty of events, light on the historical. Austin is smaller and has an expanding technical base but is geared toward politics and college students. It's where the darn hippie liberals hang out, so more and more diverse social scene. Better weather, worse roads, less traffic. It depends on what you want.
