i wont sign if i dont understand the language.
but i also think he cant get translated contract if the shop doesnt have english version right now. they wont pay for official translation only for your friend.
almost all japanese company dont have english contract except really big company. he needs to read/understand japanese if he wants to work in japan. i cant sign and work in the us if i cant read english contract.
