Should I write my academic objective in a resume for a job?

We Answered:

Most HR people these days agree that the whole objective line on your resume is a waste of space and total BS. It's better to leave it out and address your objectives in your cover letter.

The line is BS because the bottom line is that your objective is really "I want a good job that pays good money", the same as everyone else. You wouldn't have sent your resume to them if you didn't want the job.

Addressing your educational goals in the cover letter or resume, unless they're specified in the position announcement, tells HR that you're more interested in your education than in the job. While that may be true, it's not what HR wants to hear from their candidates.

Make your cover letter and resume show the HR people that you're the best possible candidate for the job - not later when you finish your education, but today. Don't tell them "I want this job until I find something better..." or "I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm willing to learn..." (so is everyone else) but instead "there is no better applicant right now, here I am"

Appropriate writing samples for job ads?

We Answered:

I think published works would be fine.

Beatrice Said:

A job posting I have seen as an academic administrator is simply requesting CV'S to be emailed?

We Answered:

Dear sir/madam,
I would like to apply for the position of academic administrator as advertised (then write where you saw it advertised ad the date) and attached a CV as requested.

Then write a bit about yourself like what you do at the moment and why you feel the job is suitable for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully
(then youur name)
