I would suggest reviews old English tips you learned in middle school and early high school, such as:

- be descriptive, but overly and ridiculously so.
- use figurative language (similes, metaphors, personifications, etc.)
- broaden your vocabulary. (maybe not at first, but if you go back to double-check your work, maybe you'll notice words that could be replaced)
- as mentioned in the tip before this, you should always double-check your work. there is bound to be several mistakes you made and revisions you can make to correct them. this to check for (misspelling, punctuation, run-on sentences, fragments, no indented paragraph, etc.)

perhaps, as exercises, look up some online writing prompts to practice. give yourself a time-limit of whatever time-limit your teacher usually gives you. that way, you can practice being a good writer and being a good writer under a time-crunch. if you want, give your teacher the practice-essays you write. that way she can tell you if your writing has improved at all.

if none of this works out, i would suggest that you ask your teacher or one of the kids in your class for advice on what you can do to improve your scores. i'm sure there's bound to be a few good tips that i forgot to list. :)

Read the dictionary first, few words or pages a day, besides that select a book of a well-know author, preferably some book you like to read... As you read, go through the dictionary for the meanings of words and identify the usage of the words in the sentences, simultaneously, improve writing (if bad), by writing a few pages per day, either cursive or otherwise neatly...
