Writing English Alphabets

Glen Said:

To any other languages have another type of alphabetical writing like English has cursive handwriting?

We Answered:

Lots of writing systems have different forms of scripts.

Most scripts have more formal and less formal systems of writing. Cursive systems of writing are used because they are faster to write.

Egyptian hieroglyphics were the origin of the cursive hieroglyphics. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursive_hie… . And cursive hieroglyphics developed into the even more cursive Hieratic script. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hieratic .

Medieval and modern Arabic scripts are all cursive, but some are more formal than others. The same is true of Hindu scripts. Their are also cursive versions of Chinese scripts ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursive_scr… ) but they are not normally printed, just as handwritten forms of the Latin alphabet are not normally printed.

Marion Said:

How Do Postal Workers in Non-English Writing and Speaking Countries Deliver Mails...?

We Answered:

Because English is so widely used, usually letters with an address in English will get to their destination.

However the best way to assure speedy delivery is to write the name of the Country, State/Province and City and the name of the addressee in English, and to write the State/Province and City and the rest of the address in the script of the country when the native script is not in Latin.

But if you don’t do this, you should still be fine. There are far more Chinese who know some language using the Latin script than there are Latin script users who know a Chinese language like Mandarin and letters addressed in non-Chinese scripts will be checked by the post office on arrival in China and a translation of the address written on the envelope.

Suzanne Said:

How can I write a Japanese character in the English alphabet?

We Answered:

Like Belie said above, if you used an internet translator chances are high that it's absolute gibberish.

The best way is to get a friend who knows Japanese to help you. Or if you don't know anyone like that personally, you can post the whole song here in Answers and ask for others to translate it.

Velma Said:

Can you write this in English alphabets?

We Answered:

Are you asking for the written names of these numbers in English? If so, then they are

"one hundred"
"one thousand"
"ten thousand"
"one hundred thousand" (assuming you meant 100,000 in the fourth line)
"one million" *
"ten million"
"one hundred million"
"one billion"
"ten billion"
"one hundred billion"
"one trillion"
"ten trillion"
"one hundred trillion"
"one quadrillion" (assuming you meant to type 1 followed by fifteen 0s on the last line, instead of repeating the next to last line)

* - There are some differences between UK English and US English on these numbers from this point onward, but I've used the US English here.

Dwight Said:

Why the written form of numerals(also English Alphabets) vary from country to country?

We Answered:

The written form of numerals (numbers) varies with some parts of the world, and also to remind you of the imperial and metric measures, traditions that still remain in some nations that have adopted the metric units.

What I think about, is the 7 written in USA, and the way it is written in many other countries, with a small horizontal bar acoss the long leg (Americans sometimes confuse a 7 "with bar" for a 4). Then there is the 1... In many nations, the 1 is written like a V upside-down, that is with "two legs" - This again confuses Americans and think it is a 7... they normally write a 1 as a vertical line only. Then there is countries where "three thousand" is written 3.000, some others is 3,000 -

Shall I mention people who write time with AM-PM - Did they ever learn to count beyond 12, and do they ever get home at 22:30, or is it at 10:30 PM...

Then of course, there is the difference between British English and North American English, with different spellings (licence or license) and words (truck or lorry). The way kids also learn to write in school varies in some areas of the world.

Funny is, at my age (66) I must be one of the last generation to have learned to write in calligraphy, and fill in pages of a, b and c in grammar school. many people look at my handwriting and say "how beautiful you write" - hell, for me is just normal writing - and I pull my hair when reading others...
