With an essay prompt like this, you most likely have a great deal of leeway when choosing how to write your response. There are probably many approaches you could take, but here are some ideas to get you thinking...

One of the major themes in 1984 is the constant presence of the government, or "Big Brother," in every aspect of citizen's lives. This will obviously have a great deal of impact on how people will behave and what they will chose to do. One angle you could take is to briefly compare the TV-like apparatuses that are placed nearly everywhere in 1984 to the television we watch today (specifically, Oprah Winfrey's show). How do they compare? What effect do they have on people's lives? With this approach, you would be comparing the people's reaction to Big Brother on "TV" to their reaction to Oprah on today's TV: how significant is the influence of these two people? How do these two figures influence the opinions of society in general?

It would probably be worthwhile to do some research on the different forms of media that Oprah uses to broadcast herself. If, as I suspect, there are many different ways in which she promotes her views, you could easily compare the pamphlets, broadcasts, and different media forms in 1984 to their "Oprah Winfrey" counterparts. That would be at least three paragraphs right there, including the bit about television I mentioned above.

I hope this gives you an idea of how to approach your essay topic. Use my contributions as you will--and certainly develop any ideas you receive from this post into an essay topic of your own choosing. As I said, I'm sure there are many ways to approach this topic. But if you decide to use any of my input, I just want to mention that factual support (from your research on Oprah as well as references from 1984 itself) of your statements will be very beneficial and, depending on what level of English you are taking, likely to impress your teacher more than vague summaries.

Art does a variety of things. It can entertain, inform, communicate,simply be a decoration. For instance...

A photograph (which is included in "art) might display a picture of a wounded soldier in war. The average person will probably not look at that and laugh, but it may teach something to those of us that have not been in that situation and it informs us of whats going on somewhere.

Art doesnt have to be visual though, music can do the same thing. A song can be created to make a person laugh or it can be to send a message. Art is simply a form of expression.
