I agree with the first answer and would like to add something else. In my experience, a language is learned faster when you are actively using it for its main purpose: to communicate. Reading and listening will only go so far, they are passive skills. Unless you actively use the language, speak it and write it, your progress will not be noticeable.

The second thing you need is constant feedback. When we learn our mother tongues, we overgeneralize some grammar rules and say things like: goed (went) or breaked (broke). Those around us provide the correction. When you're learning a second language, it is your teacher who provides the corrections and/or feedback. Depending on the size of the class, this may not always be possible. When we're out in "the real world" using the target language, very few people, if any at all, will correct us. overtime, using language forms incorrectly will fossilize the error. Getting rid of fossilized errors takes a lot of hard work.

My advise is always to seek professional help. It may seem like an expense at first, but your progress will be faster and easier. What is bought is cheaper than a gift. Think about it as an investment! Good luck!
