Teaching English Writing Skills

Sylvia Said:

question about teaching tips and skills and ideas?

We Answered:

Whenever teaching a language, you need to impart the following to your students - first, know what you want to say, then learn how to do it. sounds oversimplified, but too often, people tend to focus on the 'mechanics' of the language being taught, and miss out on the 'learning' aspect...

Why do 20% of 8 year olds in Welsh schools have poor reading, writing and spelling abilities in English?

We Answered:

I suppose it depends on how you are measuring their abilities. If you mean by test results etc, the fact that 20% come out below the expectation means that 80% reach or exceed the expectation, and this is about the same percentage as in English schools, with SATs results. You need a certain amount to be a bit below in order to create an average in the first place.
Not having English as a first language would of course have come impact on attainment in English, but I taught many bi-lingual or multilingual children who achieve above the expectation since their understanding of grammar and other linguistic concepts is far more developed than their peers.

I'm an English major interested in writing. How can a non-experienced writer get started in this field?

We Answered:

I don't know if you have The Metro in your area. Start by asking to write for a local newspaper weekly.

Brenda Said:

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out by rewriting my English writing?

We Answered:

I am an independent English student, who currently lives in Vancouver, Canada. When I was in Korea, I worked as a school office manager and as a public administrative official for the government. Furthermore, I also had the opportunity to work at a private clinic as an administrative assistant. My goal in Canada is to work for the public school board, thus I’m attending the Public Adult Education Center to study Accounting, Microsoft Office, and other computer- related courses to enhance my English computer skills.

I consider myself at ease when I am at school, along with my ardor for students. I simply enjoy helping other people through my efficient office skills and knowledge of MS program. Considering my willingness and passion to pursue a goal, and extrovert personality, I do believe that an educational institution is the suitable working place for me.

I want to improve my Spanish by living in a Spanish-Speaking country and teaching English. What are the best c?

We Answered:

You could be at my school...
My school is a Christian missionary school, where everything is taught in English but you can learn Spanish at weekends or afternoons.
Since I am a student I don't know the pay but people are pretty nice here, you can relax and learn Spanish as much as you want.

This is the school's website.
