What they're probably talking about is using colloquial language. Basically, using "slang" and relaxed grammar. Writing is generally more formal than speaking. You don't often hear people talking in the same manner that they write essays in- one is much more formal than the other.

If "writing like you speak" is a problem, try to make sure that you're using an appropriate tone. Just like how the way you speak to your friends isn't the same as the way you speak to your professor, the language that you use when you speak is often more casual than the language that you use when you write.

Try to "fine tune" your writing more. Edit! Make sure you use more sophisticated language when appropriate. If you're having trouble catching your own mistakes because of the fact that English isn't your first language, make sure you go through your work with a friend first. As you become more comfortable with the language, your writing will become more graceful. Like everything, it comes with practice!
