Though there is no maximum number of sentences that can be in a paragraph (this, of course, is within reason), I would say that a standard paragraph should have a minimum of five sentences in it to make it a paragraph.

I once loved watching those gangster movies; men imprisoned for inconspicuous things. Never did I consider it happening to my own brother. I sat nervously in a freezing, brown (perhaps dull?) courtroom, worrying about frivolous things such as the fact that I was missing school. I saw the occupants of the courtroom stand as a petite, knob nosed woman wearing a black robe waltzed in. My brother appeared, pitiful, hand-cuffs on his slim arms, his beard and hair uncut. The officer pushed him around like nothing more then a heavy duffle bag. Cameras were around the room. A woman with wiry hair and a cheap flower-print dress sat beside a typewriter. My brother’s soft cries rang out. Questions were asked. And then the words "four years in prison". Hot tears rolled down my face; I felt a fiery pain inside me. Relieved faces passed me by as I lay curled up on the hard bench, barely glancing at my tear-stained face. Looking up, I saw my brother. He tried to encourage me with sad, tired eyes. As he shuffled out of the courtroom, I realized that this was only the beginning of four of the most difficult years I had faced yet.

I am no English major, but I think I'd make a couple of changes.
Thank you very much for your help and good disposition. I would like to inform you that I will be applying in December of 2009. If I am accepted I would be attending in October 2010. I would be in the city two years. If I am accepted I would make working in your office my top priority.
I don't think I'd say please keep me in mind. If you aren't applying until next December, do some research and create a professional resume.
