The window can't be opened properly, and it's always falling down when I finally manage to. They way it's made also makes it almost impossible to clean. Is there anyway we can get this fixed or replaced? It's caused a lot of problems in my home. And as for the toilet, it keeps running water, and the flush handle cannot be used at all. Chinese does not have an alphabet so it is impossible to correlate.

Each Chinese character (there are thousands of them) corresponds to one syllable.

Some words have one syllable and therefore one character - such as ? n? meaning 'you'

Yet others have three such as ??? m? líng sh? meaning 'potato'.

Etc.

As to breaking characters (they are never called symbols) into smaller units, yes it is possible. For example characters containing ? tend to relate to liquids and things which are wet - ? ji? (alcohol), ? yóu (oil), ? ji?ng (river) etc. But not always. And not all liquids have this part. 'Water' doesn't.

These character parts are known as radicals and some dictionaries have characters arranged by radical. There are over 214 radicals. Many radicals are characters in their own right.
