It would help if I knew what the topic was. Well, writing a good essay involves research for the ones that involves history, economy etc of course but for a creative one, you have to reflect on the topic and relate to what you like in favorite books of yours. Compare and contrast the ideas. It's good to listen to music while writing, listen carefully to the lyrics and the story will unfold almost by itself.

Then focus on your thesis statement, and think of examples to support your thesis. Narrow the examples down to the most interesting/important ones, and expand on those.

Well, usually journal entry is the term for a less formal paper. I would say, write it as if you are explaining yourself to your best friend's parents: respectful, good spelling, punctuation, etc, keep it clean (they don't need to know about wild parties), but don't be afraid to put a little personality into it, like fun facts about yourself (ie, an obsession with classical music, or, a soft spot for cute puppies). You could talk about where you grew up, what pets you have, what your hobbies are, and since its a writing class, maybe mention a few favorite books. Hope that helps!

The first step in writing a well-written paper or essay is to brainstorm. I recommend you sitting down with a piece of paper and a pencil, and making a list of all of the challenges, accomplishments and disappointments in the past 12 years of your education.

Based off of this list of ideas, you will be able to successfully write about this. As you already said, you have always loved art, but you've never been good at it. That might be a disappointment that you haven't effectively learned art in school. It all depends on your personal experiences in grade school.

I would not expand an entire paragraph on your love for art but your not being good at it. What you could do is make an entire paragraph about the challenges, an entire paragraph about accomplishments, and an entire paragraph of the disappointments. In the conclusion, you should wrap it all up in a summary.
