About 1000 words, give or take.

I usually start out by designing an outline of what my speech topic is and what my points are.

For example you say your speech is on a person,

So my hypothetical speech is on a man named Maurice.
Maurice is a furniture store owner

so my subject would be
Maurice
A.owns a furniture store
B.grew up in the country
C. his father was also a furniture store owner

So those would be your points or however you're doing your speech.

i would suggest that you picked a recent film that is based on a novel that has been around for a few years so that there is a sparknotes study guide on it

then use the study guide as the basis for your speech
