A lot of teachers like when you start off with something catchy and interesting so that they want to read on. I suggest that you could use your knowledge of the symptoms of PTSD to create a story that will put your reader in the shoes of a suffer (Like you describe the feelings associated with the nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety attacks) or if you have some quotes from vets about their experiences with it then you could use that too

CPYGS
(paragraph 1)
C- catchy intro
P- present your topic
Y-your reasons (3 reasons, weakest to strongest)

(paragraph 2,3,4)
G-give your support (in 3 paragraphs, argue your 3 reasons, WEAKEST to strongest)

S-state you position again and try to end with a punch-leaves the reader thinking....

You teacher should go through (maybe not the same format) this before exams. The essay is worth 1/2 your mark! (at least for grade 9 provincials)

You say three things in support of the topic sentence. You write a paragraph for each of the three things.
For each paragraph write three things about the thing that the paragraph is about.
Put transitions between the paragraphs abnd progress in an orderly fashion.
Write a summary saying what your conclusion is about the topic you wrote about.
Another way to say it is that for each paragraph you start with a generalization and support it with facts and examples and quotations and statistics.

It should outline your body so that each body paragraph is addressed in the sentence.
It should mention the body paragraphs in the order that they appear in the essay.
It should introduce the main idea and topic of the essay and reflect the content of the essay.
