but if to address to people directly it is often

Imagine you just wrote that all out by hand. Lots of individual strokes it is...no? Think of the strokes of Chinese characters as 'letters'. Average English word is about 5 letters compared to ~9 strokes per character for Chinese. It is possible to write in cursive in Chinese thus making some characters... well just one stroke. Its not that bad trust me
