At my university, those were included in english. I think that goes for other universities too, but that is something you could ask--the english dept should know, or the schools you are applying to could tell you.

Some people are naturally gifted when it comes to writing skills and others have to work at it. You are probably really good in other areas, but even if you are terrible at writing you can improve your skills.

The previous poster gave a good suggestion - read lots of the kind of material you are expected to write and you will begin to get ideas about how to improve.

Another is to practice, practice, practice. Start keeping a journal and that may help. Write letters and e-mails. Write as much as you can.

You didn't say how old you are or which kind of writing you mean. Different kinds of writing require different strategies. Good writing skills are essential to school success, but it takes time and practice to develop them. Can you ask your teachers for a few suggestions? Someone who knows you better may be able to point out a couple of crucial areas that would make a big difference.

Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to correct everything at once. Start with a few strategies and try to use them and then try a few more.

At the end of college, I was going to have one of the best English teachers. Years of experience and all good things were said about her. I didn't even get to meet her. We had a sub since day 1. The rest of the semester sucked! We had someone three times her age (younger). With ZERO experience. It went from being such an amazing class, to the worst!! ugh anyway, I have a couple more answers. :)

J.R.R Tolkien. It would be amazing to sit in his presence and be taught by him. I would be in awe the entire time.
