I would suggest Father Camille Bulcke's "An English Hindi Dictionary" for English to Hindi translations. I had it in my home from the beginning and seems as if everyone thinks that it is the "standard" dictionary. Very nicely proofread, the dictionary is the most dependable among the lot.

For Hindi to English, there are not many options we have here. Bhargava's Standard Illustrated Dictionary seemed to be the unanimous choice. Our English teacher kept urging everyone to buy Bhargava's Dictionary. I still remember the red book-cover and the characteristic flavour of the book. You may want to give Wiktionary a try, although it's not a download.

Between the English and Hindi versions you'll probably find what you're looking for.
