Do you notice a big difference in style of writing between english and american fiction when reading? We Answered:
Yes they are very distinct, I agree with the above poster on Canadian writers having a really distinct voice (think Atwood).I can't really describe it, it's just a feeling you get from the text, it's not the use of any particular words, although that can be an indicator. The difference is in the mind-set of the author. I think it's a subconscious thing. You would have trouble trying to intentionally write as an American for instance. It makes me think of women writing as men (as they tend to do, naturally according to many gender theorists).
In terms of the question, remember that Brits and Americans are very different in terms of their cultural positioning, and this will therefore become evident in their writings.
Good question!

Have you noticed how beautiful the writing style was of many people who lived during the 1800's?We Answered:
I think their handwriting was very beautiful. The reason I believe that this is so is because they spent so much time in their studies (especially the women as they were not allowed to go to school, so many of them practiced reading, writing, scripture, etc at home). To them presentation was very important. They did not have television or movies to tarnish certain images of what things should be like. They were a lot more wholesome in that day, and took pride in a lot more things, including their handwriting. I wish today's world could be more as it was in the 1800's
